Meet the Founder

Julia Friar, MSW

Hi, I’m Julia! I’m a clinical social worker specializing in children, youth, and families. I’m also a certified Positive Discipline Parent and Classroom Educator. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of supporting families in both clinical and school settings, working with children of all ages to help them thrive emotionally, socially, and academically.

I’m also a mama of two, and my family’s journey has given me a deep understanding of the challenges and joys of parenting. Our oldest son was diagnosed with an ultra-rare genetic condition just nine days after he was born, which inspired me to become a passionate advocate for the rare disease community - starting Care for Rare Foundation, a nonprofit to support parents of children living with rare diseases.

I love championing parents—helping them find their true calm, connect deeply with their children, and feel confident in their parenting choices. My approach combines evidence-based strategies with compassion and empathy, so parents feel supported, not judged, on their journey. My goal is to help every parent I work with feel heard, understood, and empowered.

When I’m not working with families, I enjoy spending time with my own family, creating handmade jewelry pieces and traveling to new places.

Parenting isn’t about perfection—it’s about connection.

Rooted Foundations is a place where parents grow confidence, connection, and peace—rooted in God’s Word. Through practical parenting courses and engaging events, we equip families with positive discipline strategies while using biblical principles, helping you lead your children with wisdom, grace, and compassion at every age and stage.

The Positive Discipline Approach

Many traditional discipline methods rely on punishments and rewards to manage behavior. Our approach is different. We use Positive Discipline, which focuses on encouragement and connection rather than punishment.

We believe children behave best when they feel a strong sense of belonging and significance—when they know they matter and are valued. Challenging behavior is often a sign that a child is struggling to meet these basic needs.

Behavior is only the visible part of the story. Like the tip of an iceberg, what we see on the surface is driven by deeper beliefs and unmet needs underneath. Instead of focusing only on stopping behavior, we work to understand what it is communicating and help children find socially useful ways to belong and feel capable.

Our goal is to build lifelong skills—such as responsibility, cooperation, and problem-solving—while strengthening connection and respect between children and the adults who care for them.
